Remember Hurricane Irma? I'll never forget. This was the first time that the reality of having to evacuate my home was very much a real situation. I spent the night pacing the living room and slowly packing up my Xterra with the essentials. Then came time to decide which were the "essential" wines from my vast collection. This was a decision I never thought I'd have to make. Who was my favorite, Who was I gonna save? Like having to pick one child over the other, it was brutal and exasperating. Time was running out and I was sleep deprived, overwhelmed and just plain scared of this monster barreling down on Florida. It was in that moment that I broke, that straw that happens to be the one that does that thing on the camels back....yeah, that was me. I went for my Orin Swift collection. Case after case I began to fill every inch of space in that truck. That's when I realized my wine of great comfort, the ones that give that "its gonna be okay" feeling. It always was Dave Phinney and his magic with the grape.
Long story short, we never had to evacuate. Very fortunate to have been spared. But his wines will always hold a very special place in my heart and clearly ease my mind in many ways.
So having his Assistant Winemaker, Chris Hussey, here to share the evening with, sign some bottles and pour great wines is a huge honor for me. I can't think of any other way I would want to spend my Thursday evening. Please join us while we showcase all of his new projects and some of his staple wines that we have all grown to love.
